How it began
A vision for a greener tomorrow
The journey of the Federation of Forestry & Allied Cooperatives Limited (FACFED) began with a shared vision to create a dedicated, specialized platform for India’s forestry cooperatives. Recognizing the unique challenges and vast potential of the sector, a group of committed individuals came together to establish a federal cooperative that could provide the specialized support these communities deserved.
On July 12, 2024, our vision became a reality when FACFED was formally registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. This marked a pivotal moment, laying the foundation for an organization committed to empowering its members, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring the long-term health of our forests for generations to come.
Our Principles
The Federation of Forestry & Allied Cooperatives Ltd. (FACFED) is committed to building a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for forest-dependent communities across India. We envision empowered rural populations thriving through equitable access to natural resources, climate resilience, and strong cooperative institutions.
Open and Voluntary Membership
Federation is open to all persons able to use their services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political, or religious discrimination.
Democratic Member Control
Federation is a democratic organization controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting their policies and making decisions. The members of FACFED will serve as the collective decision-makers.
Autonomy and Independence
The Federation is controlled by their members. If it enters into agreements with other organizations, including governments, it does so on terms that ensure democratic control by their members and maintain their cooperative autonomy.
Education, Training, and Information
Federation provides education and training for its members, elected representatives, managers, and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperative. We inform the general public – particularly young people and opinion leaders – about the nature and benefits of cooperation.
Concern for Community
While focusing on member needs, the federation works for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members. This is at the heart of FACFED’s work in the forestry sector.
Cooperation Among Cooperatives
The Federation believes in strengthening the cooperative movement by working together with other cooperatives at local, national, and international levels. By fostering partnerships and networks, FACFED enhances collective impact, promotes shared learning, and builds resilience across forestry and allied sectors.
