About Us

What we do?

The Federation of Forestry & Allied Cooperatives Ltd. (FACFED) is a dedicated organization working to uplift forest-dependent communities through sustainable development and cooperative strength. Our mission is realized through these core activities:

Sustainable Forestry & Agroforestry

We are committed to promoting eco-friendly and scientifically sound forestry practices that go beyond mere conservation. Our focus is on managing forests in a way that conserves biodiversity, maintains ecological balance, and ensures the long-term productivity of forest resources. By integrating agroforestry, we help communities cultivate a variety of crops alongside trees, providing both food security and economic stability while reducing pressure on natural forests.

Plantation, Nurseries & Green Belt Development

Our work in afforestation is a key pillar of our mission. We undertake large-scale sapling cultivation in nurseries, focusing on indigenous and commercially viable species. These saplings are then used for planned afforestation projects, reforestation of degraded lands, and the creation of lush green belts along roadsides and highways. This not only enhances the environment but also provides valuable employment opportunities for local communities.

Training & Capacity Building

Empowerment is at the heart of our cooperative model. We provide comprehensive training programs to our members and their communities. These sessions are designed to equip them with the technical skills needed for modern forestry practices, from nursery management and timber harvesting to value-addition of forest products. We also offer institutional support to strengthen the governance and management of member cooperatives.

Policy Advocacy & Government Collaboration

As a federal body, FACFED serves as a unified voice for the interests of our member cooperatives. We actively engage in policy advocacy at state and national levels to influence policymaking that benefits forest-dependent communities. Through close collaboration with government departments, we ensure our members are included in key forestry and livelihood schemes, helping to bridge the gap between policy and on-the-ground implementation.

Innovation & Technology Use

We believe that technology is a powerful tool for sustainability. FACFED encourages the adoption of modern, sustainable solutions in forestry and allied activities. This includes leveraging GIS and remote sensing for forest monitoring, using efficient tools for harvesting and processing, and implementing digital platforms for better market access and transparent operations. Our goal is to make our members technologically resilient and competitive in the modern economy.
